Training Course for Bunka no Tsuyaku “Otsukimi (moon viewing) work shop & Japanese Culture/Manners” was held on September 29th (Friday), 2023.
Ms. Misao Kimishima was invited as an instructor, and participants challenged themselves to make Tsukimi Dango (moon-viewing dumplings).
While learning about the traditional Japanese event of Tsukimi (moon viewing), the 14 foreign participants carefully rolled dumplings one by one, and then seasoned them with three kinds of flavor: Mitarashi, Anko (red bean paste), and Kinako (soybean flour).
At the end of the event, they took pictures of the completed moon-viewing dumplings and each of them took them home to enjoy them while looking at the moon.
It is said that viewing only the moon on the “Jyugoya” on September 29, “Katamizuki,” is bad luck, and that viewing the moon on the “Jyusanya” on October 27 is also good luck.
We hope they can enjoy the Japanese moon-viewing culture by making dumplings that they have learned this time even on the “Jyusanya” night.
